Review: Metal Material Model GQ Sword Impulse Gundam

Inspired by Bandai's recent MG release of the Sword Impulse Gundam, I turned to eBay and landed this version of the Impulse. This product line focused on the 3 variations of the Impulse and seemingly just ended there. Originally released around February 2005, each version retailed for 5500 yen.

I wasn't a big fan of the Impulse, and as we all know, the Strike Freedom was the star of the show, overshadowing even the namesake mobile suit of the show, Destiny Gundam.

However, the MG release revived my interest, and this GQ MMM Impulse actually is very well made. Metal is generously used in the joints and the feet, and the whole thing has a hefty feel to it. Comes with all the things you see, plus two knives, interchangable hands and clear pink beam sword and beam boomerang parts.
Although it's not as sleek and sexy as the MG version, it is still very sharp looking. The core splendor is fully transformable, the silhouette flyer can be combined with the back unit. The boomerang can be detached and held as weapons, and the shield can be shown in open/close form. I will not recommend flying this around because some of the parts tend to pop out, but it does make an awesome display.
